Well, I often see those Western guys (with white skin in majority) hanging around at local English-speaking clubs. They do it for nothing but a great respect for foreign-language learners. Besides, Korean and Italian can be listed as 'hot' languages here in Vietnam.

I've to admit that each time watching movies without subtitles I often switch the channel whether they speak 'slang'. Aww ...

I like what you said about what some Vietnamese people do while watching a movie without subtitle. That's absolutely right & I saw it somewhere I couldn't remember very well. But I know some American still need subtitles to watch some English movies because they have different accents. In my opinion, reading subtitles are pretty shameful lol.

I think some articles in this web are really worth reading, it's funny enough to make me re-consider what I'm doing, is it ridiculous or not ... Haha, keep writing, I'm looking forward to reading your new posts.

"They" is too wide. I don't think any of my friends or 8x generation ppl fall in this category :)

What I can comment is that, most of Vietnamese are not taught how to learn and speak a foreign language :)

Good point on the English schools. I never understand why parents would pay expensive tuitions for their children to learn English from, umm, teachers who may not even have graduated high school.

I once asked my Vietnamese Sociology students if they would ever send their brothers or sisters to a class taught by an unexperienced, uneducated Vietnamese teacher. They said no, that was ridiculous.

I later replaced Vietnamese with Expat which shocked them :-)
